Move Mountains

There’s this viral picture on the internet of this tiny, little orange kitten. He’s staring into a mirror and he sees himself as this awesome, vicious lion with a full mane and bared teeth, ready to take on the world. There are days that feel that way. Then there are other days where you feel like you’re sitting on the edge of the grand canyon, dangling your feet, and trying to capture the beauty and majesty of it all with your little iPhone camera. It’s all about perspective.

Archimedes of Syracuse (a famous Greek mathematician and scientist) once said, “Give me a place to stand on, and I will move the earth.” He was talking about a lever, a simple machine that amplifies input force to provide greater output force: the longer the lever, the greater the leverage. It’s all about perspective. The right lever can move the world.

In the book of Matthew in New Testament part of the Bible, it says that if we have the smallest bit of faith, we can move mountains. It tells us that, “nothing is impossible for us.” Our perspective can change because the longest lever in the world is prayer and humility. God wants great things for us, but we have to get out of our own way. When we put God first, it frees Him up to work miracles… like moving mountains in our lives.

When I’m humble, I seek more of Him. I’m hungry to learn more and be closer to God than ever before. Humility and hunger are not mutually exclusive. If I’m humble, but I’m not learning it’s a waste. If I’m hungry, but think I know everything, what can I learn? When we’re humble and hungry, we have an insatiable desire to grow with Jesus and learn to love and help people, and He offers us this amazing promise: “They will be filled” (Matthew 5:6)

It’s all about perspective. Humility is how we get out of our own way. It’s letting go of pride and ego, and letting God work. And, if we stay out of God’s way and hungry for more of Him, then there is nothing God cannot do in us and through us. Get ready for amazing things. The best is yet to come!
