Changing lives that impact the world

God has called Community Church to reach 25,000 people by 2025 with the love and hope of Jesus.  This happens one person at a time all centered around our vision of changing lives that impact the world. When we experience the love of God it reminds us of this undeniable truth: when Jesus is at the center of our life, the best is yet to come!

Core Values

What we believe and value. That’s what makes us united and uniquely Community Church.

Live Fully Alive

Life is about more than merely surviving. God wants us to live a full, satisfying, awesome life. John 10:10 ESV

Love God, Love People

We approach God knowing that He loves us and therefore, we can love Him. We approach people the same way, no matter what…we lead with love. Matthew 22:37-39 ESV

Speak Life

Our words have the power of life or death.

We choose life! Ephesians 4:29 ESV

Pray First

No matter the day, the decision, or the circumstance, the first step is prayer. We believe God answers bold prayers–and small ones too. Matthew 6:33 ESV

Stay Humble, Stay Hungry

You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He is food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat. Matthew 5:6 MSG

Do Everything With Excellence

Everything we do represents Jesus. God doesn’t ask us for perfection; He asks us to bring our best…always! Colossians 3:17 ESV

Growing Means Changing

God loves you and therefore He is not ok with you staying the same. We are either growing closer or further away from Him. We can keep moving forward because Jesus has changed us from the inside out.

Proclaim and Become Good News

Some are all about words; some are all about actions; we are all about both. We speak God’s love from our mouths and we demonstrate it with our actions. Proverbs 3:27, Ephesians 4:15

Approach Culture Proactively And Creatively

God created the world and by Holy Spirit He lives inside of us. The Church should therefore be the most creative people group on the earth today. When we tap into what God has put inside of us, we are able to lead the way creatively.

Every Number Has A Name And Every Name Matters To God

God has a plan and a purpose for every person. This is why we will do anything, short of sin, to reach more people for Jesus…this defines us…it’s why we change; it’s why we exist: changing lives that impact the world.

About Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He convicts of sin (John 16:7-8), comforts us (John 14:16-19), guides us into all truth (John 16:13), and is our deposit, sealing us against the day our salvation is fully realized (Ephesians 1:13-14).

About God

There is one God who is the creator and ruler of the universe; eternally existing in three persons, i.e. Father, Son and Holy Spirit (1 John 5:7-8).

About the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to mankind. It is the inspired and only infallible, authoritative, complete Word of God. As such, it should be viewed as the “owner’s manual” for life (2 Timothy 3:16).

About Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God. He is fully man and fully God. He is co-equal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15) and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind (John 3:16). He rose from the grave three days later demonstrating His power over death, hell, and the grave. He ascended to the Father where He prays for us (Hebrews 7:25, 1 Timothy 2:5), is preparing an eternal place for us (John 14:1-4), and will come again for us (1 Thessalonians 4:11).

Relationship with God

All mankind needs forgiveness from sin (Romans 3:23) in order to enjoy a full life now and to share eternity with God. This forgiveness is available through God’s free offer of grace (Ephesians 2: 8_10), through trusting what Jesus Christ has done for us on the Cross (Romans 10:9-10), and by the power of Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:22). This relationship with God is essential to enjoy the wonderful realities of heaven and to avoid the painful realities of an eternal hell (John 5:24,28 and 29; Philippians 2:9-10).

A Spirit-Filled Life

All followers of Christ should seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). Spirit-filled believers should expect to receive that infilling by faith (Luke 9:9-13) and expect results in the form of power to live out their Christian lives and in the discovery and use of their spiritual gifts (Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:11, Ephesians 3:19-20).

About the Church

It is God’s intention the Christian life be lived out in community with other members of the church which form Christ’s body (Ephesians 1:20-23, Hebrews 10:25, Proverbs 27:17). God established the church as the institution through which His wisdom is shown (Ephesians 3:10), and in which His Spirit dwells (Ephesians 2:19-22).

Christian Living

When a person accepts God’s free gift of grace, he is regenerated and new life in Christ begins (2 Corinthians 5:17). The goal of this new life is to be transformed into a life of “Christ-like” character (Romans 12:1-2). However, the supreme evidence of Christian discipleship is not that we keep all the rules, but rather that we have love for one another (John 13:35).

Our History

For over twenty-five years, Community Church has sought to inspire Hampton Roads with the love of Jesus. Since the beginning and to this day, we look to reach those who have given up hope on the Church and in many cases, God, Himself.

Our first service was held in 1989 (lead by founders Dr. Jim and Kim Wall) and was made up of one hundred sixty-five people who were burned out on religion and had, for the most part, given up on faith altogether. Over the next decade, we rented twenty-two different facilities because the church was growing so fast. In 2000, we moved to our first permanent facility on Jolliff Road in Chesapeake. Year over year, our numbers kept growing and so did our facility. In 2008, Phase 3 of our building plan was completed with a full kitchen, awesome kid’s spaces, and 1,100 seat auditorium. In January 2014 with a vision for Community Church to continue going to the next level, Michael Brueseke succeeded Jim Wall and became our new Senior Pastor.

We launched our second campus in 2014 in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach and in 2015 we launched our first international campus in the Philippines.

We are one church, multiple campuses; and, our mission remains true no matter where we are. We want to change lives that impact the world. Today we have 2,300 people participating in weekend celebration services; and our vision is to reach 25,000 people by 2025. Every number has a name and every name matters to God.

We know that at the end of the day, no one really needs another event or a great production. We need real encounters with our Creator. Encounters that result in Jesus becoming the center of our lives. We don’t just care about Sunday. We care about Tuesday afternoon or Thursday evening and everything in between, when people are wrestling with the awkward, messy, painful stuff in the trenches of life. We are a place for the broken, the hurt, and the lonely. Community Church is a place where people can get help. When if we see one person’s life changed through the crazy, radical love of Jesus, we celebrate!

The best is yet to come!
